Shalom Aleichem

A Hebrew prayer for peace

Shalom Aleichem is probably the most famous Jewish melodies out there. We sing it on friday night, as the family gathers at the dinner table, wearing white, lighting candles, and together, we welcome Shabbat.

In the song, we greet the angels of peace, inviting them to come into our homes, and help instate peace inside. There’s something beautiful about that simple act of welcome, creating a moment of peace before the week begins again.

I wanted to make this version very simply: only with my voice, leaving space for the melody and the words to breathe. It’s a part of my upcoming album, The Courage to Pray, a collection of minimalist Jewish prayers for uncertain times.

I’m making this album independently, and I’d love to make it together with the people who connect with these songs. If Shalom Aleichem or these prayers bring something into your life, you can join me by making a contribution or pre-ordering a copy.  Every bit of support helps bring this music into the world.
