Hey You: Redefining Self-Worth from the Inside Out
When I was writing my album Love Migration, I was in a year-and-half long-distance relationship with the man who is now my husband. Every single morning felt like Groundhog Day. I had to wake up and consciously re-choose a situation filled with uncertainty, feeling completely and utterly alone.
But when he finally moved to Amsterdam to be with me, the reality hit me: the ambivalence wasn’t the distance. It was inside me. I was the one who needed convincing.
That sudden realization turned my wonder into a deep, painful burnout. It took me several years to finally crawl out of that dark space. But throughout that entire journey, my song Hey You was right there with me. It was a gentle voice whispering in my ear that better days were coming, helping me slowly redefine my self-worth.
I wrote this song as my own sanctuary, and now I pass it on to you. If you are battling your own internal doubts, facing burnout, or trying to find your footing, I hope these chords hold you. I hope it helps you find your worth, just like it helped me.
