When I was a child I was a huge nerd, and my only refuge was music.
But my parents didn’t like me being a musician and tried to do anything they could to prevent me from becoming one.
So my freedom was limited. I had to work to pay for my piano lessons and later for trombone, practice when my parents were at work so nobody hears me playing, and sneak out of school so I can go to the music school instead!

And then I found Nina Simone.
Nina was everything: passion and fire, elegance and rage. She never compromised, and she reminded me that even when I feel restricted, I can still choose to be free.
That’s the heartbeat of my new album: Nani Sings Nina: my personal tribute to Nina Simone.
For the past 8 years, I’ve performed this tribute show almost a 100 times, in jazz festivals and concert halls all over the world.

And every single time, people asked me: “When will you record it?”

So… now it’s finally happening!

We’ve already recorded the album with incredible musicians from Spain, Finland, and the Netherlands.
The 13 songs weave together Nina’s soul and the music of J.S. Bach <3 the composer both she and I grew up playing endlessly on the piano.
