Adon haselichot
A prayer for peace
Adon Haselichot is one of the most beautiful Jewish prayers of forgiveness. Its name means “Master of Forgiveness,” and we sing it especially during the High Holy Days, when we take time to reflect on the year behind us and ask for forgiveness, mercy, and another chance.
There’s something very human about the way the prayer keeps returning to the same simple idea: we make mistakes, we ask for forgiveness, and we try again. I’ve sung it since I was a child, but every year the words seem to mean something a little different.
I wanted to make Ose Shalom very simply: with my voice and my trombone, leaving space for the words to breathe. It’s part of my upcoming album, The Courage to Pray, a collection of minimalist Jewish prayers for uncertain times.
I’m making this album independently, and I’d love for you to be part of making it happen. If these prayers mean something to you, you can make a contribution or pre-order a copy, and help me make this album a reality.
